Press ReleaseFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Media Contact: JDI Technologies to License NextBend’s Patented Modular TechnologyLAS VEGAS, (Nov. 20, 2002) -- NextBend, Inc., and JDI Technologies, a leader in computer connectivity and peripheral products, have announced today an agreement in principal for JDI to license NextBend’s patented modular technology, the Stackable Deck™ system. This deal makes JDI the first to license NextBend’s Stackable Deck technology, which compliments JDI’s patented modular PowerCore System. This combined technology creates a new class of modular device that is similar to component-based stereo systems but capable of running computer applications, gaming and entertainment systems, and providing access to broadband and communications services. “The agreement is particularly meaningful not only because of JDI’s leadership position in the field of connectivity and computer peripherals, but also because both our companies share the belief that modularity is the key to making convergence a reality,” says NextBend CEO Tom Orr. “Our businesses are unrivalled in our commitment to furthering the development of modular technologies,” added Henry Milan, CEO, JDI Technologies. This agreement is a powerful statement to delivering truly modular computing technologies to the market.” Systems based on NextBend’s Stackable Deck technology consist of a “home” Deck, which acts as a single point of connection for peripherals and serves as the primary power source. Additional application decks such as set-top, digital video recorder, game console, media, storage, etc. can then be stacked on top, connecting automatically to the existing system without external wires. Each Deck contains dedicated hardware, software, processor and memory. They are 100 percent scalable and the entire stack does not become obsolete based on upgrades/changes to a single Deck. # # #About JDI TechnologiesJDI Technologies was founded in 1984 as an importer of computer cable and connectivity products, including serial and parallel cables, cables for printers, keyboard, and mice, video cables, and switch boxes for Apple and PC computers.
